Prior to joining Cortes Hodz, Sara practiced insurance defense with Pennington, P.A. Sara also practiced for six years as an Assistant Public Defender for the 13th Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County. As an Assistant Public Defender, Sara tried 63 jury trials and 11 non-jury trials. In her time as an Assistant Public Defender Sara worked in all Divisions of the office to include Juvenile, Misdemeanor and Felony Court and tried cases ranging from petit theft to homicide.
Sara is a native of Tampa, Florida. She graduated with honors from the University of Tampa in 2007. While attending the University of Tampa, Sara was a student clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. Sara went on to attend and graduate from Stetson University College of Law. While in law school Sara interned for the Honorable Judge Anthony Porcelli of the Middle District of Florida, the State Attorney’s Office for the 6th Judicial Circuit, and the Public Defender’s Office for the 13th Judicial Circuit.
Sara currently serves as a member of the Florida Bar Professional Committee and is a graduate of the Florida Bar Leadership Academy, Class II. Sara is in the current class of the Hillsborough County Bar Association Bar Leadership Institute. She is an active member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers and the Ferguson-White Inn of Court. Outside of work Sara is also very active in her church.
Sara resides in Tampa with her husband and two children.
